DAT instruments dataloggers and sensors have been used to check the perfect execution of cement piles to build an important link between Caltanissetta and Palermo-Catania highway, in Sicily, South of Italy.
The project
The highway SS 640 has a romantic name. It is known as the “Writers mainroad” and it starts in Porto Empedocle, goes through the Temple Valley across the provinces of Agrigento and Caltanissetta, it ends while crossing the A19 highway, which connects Palermo and Catania. 72 km of a strategic street of the regional roads, it connects internal zones and South-West Sicily. It is the main motorway connection among the three main cities in this area: A19 Palermo-Catania, A20 Messina-Palermo and A18 Messina-Catania.
The old main road 640 had a single roadway, with two tracks and it was connected to other secondary roads via crossroads. In order to update this road, Anas (Italian National Highway Authority) has demanded the update of the way between the South area of Agrigento and the link in Caltanissetta to the A19 Palermo-Catania highway. During this work a new road section with two two-lane roads (each lane is 3,75 m) has been built together with a shoulder of 1,75 m on the right and a paved shoulder of 1,25 m on the left, with a safety fence of 2,5 m minimum.
The field
The field has been divided in two and all works around the city of Caltanissetta have finished. Piles of 800, 1.200 and 1.500 mm, for a total of 7.590 m at a depth from 13 m to 52 m, have been executed. The project owner has demanded a very high precision, with a max tolerance of 10 cm in depth and of 0,03% for verticality. Because of these parameters, the Customer decided to install on the MAIT HR130 equipment a JET SDP / J datalogger produced by DAT instruments. This data logger lets display values in real time on the monitor, depth, rod translation speed and inclination on the axes X and Y. “The adoption of this instruments, together with inclination sensor DAT INCL XY and depth sensor JET DEPTH”, has said Amedeo Valoroso, founder and owner of DAT instruments, “has let the Customer meet the Supervisor demands. Piles have been built in the correct way according to verticality and depth. We also underline that JET SDP / J is as efficient as low price, but able to solve many problems and to meet even the most important demands”.
At Bauma
While DAT instruments data loggers are working in Italy and all over the world, drilling professionals could see the Italian data logger and could share info with DAT instruments technicians at BAUMA exhibition, in Munich, Germany, from 8 to 14 April 2019. DAT instruments will be present at hall C2, booth 251.
